WTN: 2001 Maximin Grunhaus QbA - punching above its weight

2001 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhauser Riesling
Remarkably youthful, while also being a complex web of citrus fruit, minerals, pine and clear spring water. Seems more like top kabinett or maybe even a small spatlese, and not in any near or long term danger of decline. Simply fabulous stuff that belies the Grunhaus "down period." Fantastic wine!

Your observation "not in any near or long term danger of decline" is borne out by a humble QbA from 1990 which Carl von Schubert showed at a tasting in 2010 after pouring some younger entry level wines. I wrote -

It was amazing to witness the extra dimension the wine had acquired; delicately rich and complex aromas, gentle sweetness, velvety texture enlivened by fine acidity and good complexity; 16.5+++.

I would give this wine another 15-20 years of profitable life.
