We've had many nice wines over the past few months and a few stand out.
Over the last two nights with pheasant and subsequently a (pheasant) pot-pie we enjoyed the Roche de Bellene "09 Beaune Les Aigroits. It was just about perfect, from my passive cellar, too. I've found most of the '09's to be drinking nicely now, with a 1-2 hour decant, even the 1st crus. They might shutdown later, but they are tasty now. I have been enjoying the Bouchard Pere et Fils '09 Bourgogne and several other '09's, all with the same results. The '10s are not at their peak by any means, but with a two hour decant they can be teasingly good, but will certainly get better. IMO Burgundy have gotten noticeably better over the past 10 years. Has anyone else noticed this?
On the other hand, I tend to like the Bordeauxs from Castillon, more specifically Cht. Hyot and Clos Puy Arnot as well as others. At least the petit chateaux are not caught up in the "kings ransom" of the higher end Bdx. They recently adopted the AOC of Cotes de Bordeaux, but they tend to precede the name with "Castillon", as they should. A nice address to look for.
FWIT, we opened a Grand Tayac '08 Margaux the other night and managed to drink most of it in spite of the fact that it was corked. Can't wait to try another bottle. This was with a two hour decant.
