WTN: Old Vine Carignane and Merlot

by Brian K Miller » Mon May 06, 2013 10:59 am

2009 Fields Family Winery Napa Valley Merlot. Mostly Oak Knoll fruit. Very, very young. Nonehtless, delicious anise flavorings, warm plum. Big tannins. Pretty primary right now, would like to see where this goes.

2010 Three Wine Company Contra Costa County Carignane. From Old Vine vineyards near Oakley in Contra Costa County. Very rich red fruit. Smooth...oak is a little prominent right now????? floral/herbal Carrignan fruit. My favorite of the winery's current releases. Three is the Matt Cline project housed in Clarksburg's Old Sugar Mill complex...a really cool place to visit!
