Last night's dinner club was themed "Rock the Casbah". Amazingly, I found some Morroccan wine to take (with backups from Spain). Both were from La Celliers de Meknes in Meknes from Zniber Vineyard fruit "in the famous appellation Beni M'Tir located at the foothills of the Arias mountains--a unique terroir with exceptional climate". Neither label gave us a clue about grape varieties other than "from noble and traditional grapes". The 2009 white, called Ksar, was just okay. Very dry and Sauvignon Blanc-ish but a bit tired and on the edge of becoming oxidative. It would have been fairly nice about two years ago. The 2009 red, called Amazigh, was quite a bit better. Very credible actually, and very cabernet-like with dry, reticent black fruit, dust and tobacco notes. Both bottles were drained. All in all, a better result than I expected.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
