Tried this today w/ the boys at ArroyoVino:
1. Forlorn-Hope GasconyCadets PetiteVerdot KingAndrewsVnyd/SuisunVlly/SolanoCnty (47 cs; 15.1%; 4 months on
skins & stems) 2009
: Fairly dark color; strong rather herbal/Cab-like/earthy some thyme/pungent/musky bit plummy light oak fairly interesting nose; soft rather hard/tannic/gritty/rough bit earthy/root cellar some plummy/herbal/Cab-like flavor; med.long slight alcoholic/hot rather structured/hard/tannic/rough/coarse bit herbal/Cab-like/plummy finish; somewhat interesting wine but dominated by hard/rough/gritty tannins; needs agge but not sure where it will go. $30.00

Wow. Didn't realize he would be pushing the alcohol up so high in a relatively moderate year like 2009. I may skip this vintage...I have some 2006 and 2007.

Well, Brian...I didn't think the alcohol was particularly intrusive. I just thought it pretty hard & tannic on the palate. I liked the '06 & '07 a lot better.
Maybe it just needs time.
