For New York Wine Lovers…
Foundation Unveils “Uncork New York” Brochure
The New York Wine & Grape Foundation has unveiled a new “Uncork New York” brochure with comprehensive information about the New York wine industry, touring the regions, and how to enjoy New York wines.
The full-color, 32-page booklet is the statewide beginning to a series of brochures that will provide even more detail on each of the major wine regions: Long Island, Hudson River, Finger Lakes, Niagara Escarpment, and Lake Erie. The regional guides will include detailed maps for finding virtually every winery in the State.
The statewide guide is a primer on New York wines, with sections covering:
*
Latitude and climate of New York’s grape growing regions
*
The most common types of wine grapes grown in New York
*
Recipes for using heart-healthy grape juice
*
Tips on touring wine country
*
Statistics on the New York grape and wine industry
*
Descriptions of the major regions
*
Tips on tasting wines for maximum enjoyment
*
Several great recipes using New York foods

*
Listings of New York wineries by region
*
A comprehensive source for further tourist information
“Tourism is the lifeblood of the New York wine industry, and the wine industry is a major tourism catalyst,” said Jim Trezise, the Foundation’s President. “In less than 20 years, the number to tourist visits to New York wineries multiplied over 10-fold to more than four million annually. This brochure and the regional versions will help guide visitors to and through New York wine country.”
The wine industry’s explosive growth has sparked the creation and expansion of many other tourism-dependent businesses like motor coach and limousine services, Bed & Breakfasts and hotels, restaurants, gift shops, and service stations. In 2004, wine-related tourism expenditures totaled over $300 million, and the grape and wine industry generated over $400 million in state and local taxes. The industry’s total economic benefit to the state was $3.4 billion. More information about the industry’s economic impact is available at http://www.newyorkwines.org under Information Station and Hot Topics.
The new brochures have been coordinated by Foundation Vice President Susan Spence, with photography by Randall Tagg and design by Book Marshall. Individual copies for consumers, or cases for the trade, are available by contacting Bonnie Hampton, New York Wine & Grape Foundation, 800 S.
