Vincent Gaudry Sancerre "Le Tournebride" 2011
I hate Sauvignon Blanc but but I've now tried this wine in every vintage from 2008 and it's always really nice. This is perhaps the weakest of all these years because it is relatively low in acidity and I love acidity, but aromatically it is really nice: it doesn't smell of any stereotype of SB. And it does have enough acidity to keep itself together. Relatively this might be the weakest of the 2008-2011 set, but it is still far better than most Sancerre or SB in general. Buy again? Yes, but probably not in any great quantity.
Domaine Pattes-Loup (Thomas Pico) Chablis Vent d'Ange 2011
From what I have read, since I haven't before this tasted any 2011s, I was expecting a low acid wine. But I suppose since Thomas Pico made a perfectly drinkable and well structured 2009, I shouldn't have been so surprised at the acid levels in this one. Ripe, citric and saline. Refreshing and moreish. And it even transcends the neutrality of the grape by having a slightly Cheniny wet wool aroma. If more Chablis were like this, I'd drink it often. Perhaps this could be criticized for being quite expensive for a Domaine's "basic" Chablis at 26€, but since this tastes nothing like a "basic" wine I guess the price can be justified. Lovely stuff. A certain repurchase even at this price.
