Here's the meat:
The Ristretto Rosa is a concoction based the exotic Tanqueray Malacca gin, that old/new, limited release remake of an old favorite long out of production and now back in the marketplace. Nostrana adds the (also new to the market) Cocchi Americano Rosa, a mellow-bittered rosé-styled Italian aperitif-mixer; the lovely and rich and intensely flavored Combier Triple Sec; and a splash of Saracco Moscato d’Asti from the Piemonte, a slightly fizzy and engagingly floral and altogether delicious muscat wine, also from the Piemonte region of Italy.
What??? Moscato d’Asti in a Negroni???? I know. But it works, heretical as it may seem.
Once mixed, the Ristretto is mildly carbonated in an iSi siphon, then served, without adornment, up in a Riedel Sangiovese glass (to carry through the wine connection).
It’s a gorgeous cocktail to the eye and the palate, although as mentioned before there is a ‘period of adjustment’ to wrap your perception around a gently sparkling, bitter-sweet, exotically floral and perfumed (that’s from the delicious Tanqueray Malacca) drink that has the initially jarring flash of a Jolly Rancher candy in the finish. Once that registers, however, you realize this is a perfect Spring-into-Summer cocktail, made to order for sunny days and balmy evenings that slowly unroll. This is a pretty-in-pink floral bouquet of a Negroni. And while it doesn’t pack the authoritative punch of the classic Negroni with that gin-and-Campari lipsmack, it has subtle charms all its own.
