WTN: Two Novy Syrahs...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:57 am

Tried these two over the last few days:
1. Novy Syrah SonomaCnty (14.6%) 2010: Very dark/near black color; slight reduced/pungent that clears to very spicy/blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/licorice/chocolaty light smokey/toasty/oak/charred nose; soft bit hard/tannic/angular strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/spicy some smokey/charred/toasty/oak flavor; med. strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit hard/tannic some smokey/charred/oak finish; not as ripe & plush as the Susan's and a bit of a tannic bite but an absolutely delicious Syrah at a very good price. $17.00

2. Novy Syrah Susan'sHillVnyd/SantaLiciaHighlands (14.7%) 2010: Very dark/near black color; intense blackberry/Syrah some herbal/SLH/peppery bit smokey/pungent/toasty/pencilly/oak very attractive rather classic SLH Syrah nose; soft/rich/lush some pungent/smokey/oak strong blackberry/Syrah/DrPepper/black cherry cola bit chocolaty flavor w/ soft/plush tannins; long soft/rich/lush spicy/blackberry/Syrah/DrPepper some toasty/smokey/oak slight peppery/chocolaty finish w/ soft/plush tannins; tastes like a very ripe Syrah from a cold climate; lots of ripe Syrah fruit and well-balanced; needs 2-5 yrs yet; a really lovely/rich Syrah. $27.50

A wee BP:
1. I've followed Adam's Syrahs from the very start...way back when. They don't have the acidity & structure of many top Calif Syrahs, but they're always packed w/ lots of Syrah fruit and typically well-priced/good values. They're some of my go-to Syrahs.
