NYTimes: Jersey The Next Napa???

That's what some of those folks think:
NYTimes:JoiseyWines

Seems I've heard this story befor..but for Virginia/Idaho/NewMexico/Texas....

I like the comment:
.....American Association of Wine Economists, a group that sometimes seems to exist to give economists a cover to drink lots of wine.

OK, lets says there are handful of really goood NJ wines in the $50-100 price range and lets say that some of your wine budget goes to $50-100 wines.

Would you buy the NJ wines over what you might normall buy in that price range (e.g., Cote Rotie, Burgundy, Brunello)?

I'm just not sure that I ever would.

Well, Tom.....yes and no. If the wine in question were a Merlot or CabFranc or Chard....probably not.
However...if it were a Teroldego or a Refosco...I probably would.
Haven't bought a Burgundy or Brunello, though, in years & years.

Sure. Why wouldn't I if I thought that the price was fair for the quality. There seems to be a belief that the East Coast can't produce wines worthy of higher prices and for most of them its true. However there are some examples that I believe are worthy of the prices asked. As for wines priced at $50 or above I am only aware of a few. Linden Hardscrable Red and Barboursville Octagon have finally hit $50, RdV is around $80, and some of the TBA in the finger lakes can go for $80-$100 for a 375. I have purchased the LInden and Barboursville in the past and don't expect to stop with the most recent price increase. I am going to RdV for the first time later this month and based on other reports expect to bring back a few bottles. If I could get the FL wines locally, I would consider them also but don't drink enough stickie to justify it.

The region, which has nearly the same sandy soil composition as Bordeaux, experiences a warm growing season; spring frosts are rare; and the breezes from the Atlantic Ocean and a local bay are ideal for winemaking.

Isn't one of the points in Bordeaux the GRAVEL croupes, not the (lesser) sandy soils? ?????

Adam Davidson is a wank, and it is going to be a long time before any NJ wine is worth more than $20 a bottle.
Just sayin.
