WTN: 2006 Marcel Deiss Pinot Gris

by Joy Lindholm » Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:33 am

Lovely orange-bronze color. Dried apricots, caramelized apples, marzipan, olive oil and macadamia nuts, with a bit of oxidative character. Slightly over-the-hill but still alluring and thought-provoking - the Helen Mirren of wine.

I thought that Deiss had remarkable success in 2006 despite all of the rot that plagued the vintage. Must have been the Biodynamicism! I know that Vintus used to import them. Do you know who does now?

Cheers,
Bill

I know Vintus had them at least through the 2007 vintage. From what I can find online, the new importer appears to be Adrian Chalk. Not familiar with him, but looks like he also picked up Gonet-Medeville Champagne from Martine's Wines.

Tough sell, Alsace is. But if you can't get the most famous producers like Deiss, Z-H, Trimbach and Weinbach going, what hope is there for the rest of the (often) very good field? Global warming has not been kind to Alsace.

Cheers,
Bill
