WTN: 1989 Barolo Brunate, Bricco Rocche Ceretto

Bought three bottles of this wine at a Christie's auction in Amsterdam earlier this year. I was curious about it so I opened a bottle for dinner:

Pale red with a hint of orange rims.
Fine tuned, elegant nose with some hints of meat and smoke. A little mushrooms too. with some time in the glass the nose became fuller and also with a fresh hint of mint.
Taste is fresh and elegant but with a splendid depth and lovely tannins with a real grip. Lingering, stylish and smoky finish with wonderfully structured tannins.

A great and very stylish wine. Not really ready yet, but well on its way and a great match to the duck with mushroom risotto for dinner today. I'll let the other two bottles rest a few more years before I taste the next one.

I must admit, I have a great admiration for a wine being 17 years old and 'not ready yet'. I guess it's a reaction to the instant gratification generation of wine drinkers (ewww! that sounded troll like Ian ).

However (if and) when Barolo does eventually open for business, the reward can be easily worth the wait.

This bottle does certainly sound stylish and balanced - I hope you hit the remaining bottles at peak!
