Tried this last night w/ dinner:
1. Verdad Albarino CentralCoast (12.5%; 60% Sawyer-LindquistVnyd/EdnaVlly + 40% Ibarra-YoungVnyd/SantaYnezVlly; 448 cs; www.VerdadWines.com) Louisa Sawyer Lindquist/SantaMaria 2008: Light yellow/gold color; strong nutty/appley/honeyed/toasted hazelnuts almost oldRhonish bit waxy/pungent interesting nose; rather tart/lean strong apple/apple peel/waxy/nutty bit oxidized slight tangy/grapefruity/metallic/steely slightly bitter interesting flavor; med.long tart/tangy/grapefruity rather waxy/toasted hazelnuts/nutty/bit oxidized/oldRhone light interesting finish; lost most of that bright/vibrant/floral Albarino fruit and evolved into an interesting old white somewhat in the style of an old Spanish Rioja.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. To my recollect, this was the first significant crop off the Sawyer-Lindquist vnyd across the road from JohnAlban's. I stumbled across this btl in my stash and decided to open it. It had evolved much more rapidly than I'd expected for being 3 yrs in btl. But in a good & interesting way. There was definitely some oxidation present...but a good kind of oxidation (notwithstanding some people's claim that any oxidation in a wine is a flaw). It was actually quite a tasty wine and reminded me a bit of old-timey Spanish Biancos...which usually had a bit/lots oof oxidation in them. With the grilled aspargras wrapped in proscuitto and Romesco sauce, it really hit the spot.
