WTN: 2011 Barnard Griffin Rose' of Sangiovese

by JC (NC) » Mon Sep 24, 2012 11:58 pm

Columbia Valley, WA. 12.4% alcohol by volume. Rosy coral color with transparency. Bright cherry/berry nose. Juicy, inviting if a bit simple. Encourages further sips or a refill of the glass. I would rate it 86 or 87 for its immediate pleasure and in comparison to others in the rose' category. Would be great chilled on a picnic. I had it with a simple chicken presentation and then again with a chicken/seedless grape/artichoke salad. A fun wine!

In "difficult" years like '10 and '11, BG can produce some pleasant wines. But be warned to avoid them in warm vintages, where they will be short on acid and long on RS.

Thanks for the advice, Jenise. I don't have other experience with BG wines.

The whole BG portfolio tend toward big, simple, fruit-driven wines in the "affordable" class which is why those of us who don't like that style can find their wines pleasant in lean years.
