The last case of the "restaurant" bordeauxs I bought I paid $75 for, about two years ago, and that price was direct wholesale not MSRP. Still, $150 seems a bit high.

Did a bit of searching on the internet just for fun. One case of 12 Riedel Restaurant Series Cabernet/Merlot glasses on eBay starting bidding at $159 (21 hours to go -- no bids so far) and nothing that I can find on Amazon.

Not having heard of this "Restaurant Series" before, I looked on the Riedel on the internet, and they say, "same fine quality bowl and adds a slightly thicker stem to withstand the wear and tear of a busy restaurant." Georg Riedel 10th generation Austrian glassmaker and Extreme series creator said, "A restaurant wine glass sees as much usage in a week, as a glass used at home sees in a year. More at their web site: http://restaurant.riedel.com/index.php?article_id=491&clang=0"

Apparently Riedel is protective of this series and doesn't want them to get out to the general public.

So, $150 seems like a good buy, and if a sturdy and durable stem is what you want, go for it.

I purchased a dozen Hermitage restaurant earlier this year for under a hundred dollars after attending a session with George. Great value.

Like I said, it was direct wholesale--through a friend, that is, who had a wine shop and would sell them to me for what he paid. I can't get that deal for you, was just letting you know what the markup (apparently) is (or was).

The thought crossed my mind! Worst case scenario, there is always plan B, right?

Ah the (in)famous restaurant riedels. A consortium purchase a while back on wine-pages caused quite a fracas when Riedel deemed it appropriate to define them unavailable to the general public. Caused quite a bit of ill-feeling towards Riedel at the time.
