I loved this wine immediately upon release. Unlike the typical St. Innocent pinot that you have to wait for, these had huge aromatics right off the bat with highly unusual and prematurely warm barnyard and tea notes with lighter reddish-gold color. All to their benefit, at least as far as I was concerned: this vineyard/vintage was one of my favorite St. Innocents ever, and we went through them pretty quickly. So I could hardly believe my eyes when going through the cellar last week and finding one more.
Opened it last night to go with a homey meal of pan-fried pork chop and creamy pan gravy on succotash. The effusive aromatics were still present, and funkier. The color had deepened a bit, too. But it's showing it's (premature) age: more acid than fruit, we thought, and no tannins to speak of. Still delightful enough especially with intact memories of earlier, better bottles: but drink, don't hold.
