WTN: Local Grüner + Older Gewürz

2010 Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery Grüner Veltliner Southeastern New England
This is my first time trying this southern Massachusetts Grüner. Floral/peppery nose. Medium-bodied, nicely balanced, moderately acidic, rounder; bone dry, lightly mineral, with notes of white peaches, limes, white pepper, and lentils. Good/very good; this is a really nice effort.

1997 Domaine Marcel Deiss Gewürztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles “Quintessence”
From 375 ml bottle. Medium amber color. Nose of kvass, brown sugar, dried apricots, and some earth. Quite viscous and sweet, powerful, well balanced, with enough acidity left to make it all work. Tastes of maple syrup, black tea, molasses, raisins, oranges, apples, and herbs and spices. Good length/power on the finish, which you expect with this type of wine.
This should drink well for at least a few more years, but I don’t see it improving much, if at all. An excellent wine, though not as interesting as Deiss' single-vineyard field blends; nor quite as riveting as Weinbach’s 1997 Gewürztraminer Altenbourg Quintessence de Grains Nobles , which I was fortunate enough to drink a few years ago.
