by Bruce Hayes » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:43 am

QbA Baden
Konigschffhausener

Bright yellow in the glass.

Honey, spicy, apple, pear on the clean and rich nose.

Medium weight, quite rich, pear, a hint of peach, very spicy, a touch of bitterness, good acidity, clean.

Mouthwatering, spicy, pear on the finish.

Delicious.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

Hi Bruce -

Thank you for the interesting note - sounds like a very pleasant wine. Baden seems to have a particularly large number of co-ops, compared to most of the better-known German winegrowing regions.

Anyway, I've only ever tried two Baden/Kaiserstuhl Pinot Gris/Grauburgunders (from Dr. Heger and their label for wine made from leased sites, Weinhaus Heger), and remember liking both of them. Unfortunately, these are not wines that we typically see around my area.

My step-father lived in Haslach, north of Freiburg. When I was visiting in the early 90s, he used to take me around the various co-opertives and local restaurants. Wonderful food and wines, especially the Spatburgunders.
Coming over from Canada, I was always amused how all the shops and banks closed down in the afternoon from 2 till 5!
