WTN: 2003 Arcadian 'Dierberg VY' pinot noir

by Jenise » Sat Sep 01, 2012 10:09 am

I don't know when I'm going to open a bottle of Arcadian pinot noir and be disappointed, but it hasn't happened yet. My first bottle of the 2003 Dierberg Vineyard has an aromatic nose of sweet cherry fruit with tomato skin and thyme, typical of what I think of as 'Santa Barbara style' even though the larger original appellation has been subdivided. Those characteristics repeat on the palate, broadened by a bit of beet and celery though the wine is by no means vegetal per se. Balanced and youthful; excellent.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I love Arcadian, and I'm sipping a 2007 Sleepy Hollow Pinot as I await the boiling of the pasta water.

Jon, The SH Chards are very good, too, and they age amazingly well. I just bought 4 bottles of the 1997 Bien Nacido Chard, which is one of my all-time favorite Arcadian wines.

Jenise, I've had this wine 3 times, and it has always been stunning. It does show the good side of steaminess.

Have you had the 2004 Arcadian Pisoni? That may be an outlier in terms of ripenness for Joe, though I have enjoyed some bottles.

We had an 05 SH chardonnay about two weeks ago, opened it for some Francophile friends. We were all quite wowed by it. Concentrated, beautifully dileneated ripe fruit, rather like the most excellent Macon you've ever had. Seven years old and shows no age at all.

No, not the 04. In fact I think the 01 Pisoni is the only Arcadian Pisoni I've had, though I've had it twice. From my friend George's cellar, it was merely good. The bottle from my cellar last June, however, was one of the greatest California pinots I've ever had.

If we ever meet, I think it should be over a bottle of Arcadian followed by, say, a Chateau Palmer. :) We seem to have very well-matched palates.

Sounds good, but you would have to bring the Palmer...I don't have any :? I do, however, own plenty of Arcadian.
