WTN: Swan Sonoma Zin '80...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Aug 31, 2012 12:25 pm

We tried last night at BBB:
1. JosephSwan Zin (TW) 1980: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; slight licorice/raspberry strong cedary/pencilly/old Zin/old Bdx slight smokey/minty complex nose; soft/smooth/elegant rather cedary/pencilly/smokey/old Zin complex flavor; very long cedary/pencilly/smokey/charred/old Zin finish w/ somewhat tannic/dried out aftertaste; some nice old Zin character but showing its age; sorta fading gently into the sunset.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Cork was sound. Ullaged down onto mid-shoulder. When first opened, it showed some fresh raspberry/spicy fruit. But it fell apart pretty rapidly in the decanter until it was just a curmudgeonly old wine.

32!!!! Wow! Swan Zins can age, but one usually thinks of that in Zin years, not in PS or Bordeaux years.
I'm impressed that it was tasteable!
