Wine Focus for September: Discussion complete.

by Robin Garr » Wed Aug 29, 2012 10:35 am

Okay, we have a consensus. WIth David largely out of pocket  let's ride the crest of the New Zealand wave into a month in which we'll consider Sauvignon Blanc from all over the world, comparing and contrasting it with the New Zealand style.

When did we last look at a region of Spain? Bierzo might be hard for some punters to find but perhaps we could corporate into another "Spain focus". Say N/NW reds or something like that?

Looking at the map Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero all would fit nicely, plus some nice white producing areas close to the coast.

Bob, I like this area but I think we did a WF on it or including it about a year ago. I would be happy to do it again but for the fact that my cellar is nearly empty of Spanish wine except Rioja and a couple from R.del Duero.

Yeah, my memory might be failing, too, but I sure felt we had done Spain fairly recently. Plus, I have a hard time seeing us drawing a lot of newbies in with "Wine Focus: Bierzo."

Any other ideas, folks? Remember, look for wide application and lots of choices, but it doesn't have to be boring.

I love them, but isn't that kind of similar to the Chianti-as-a-summer-sipper we did recently? Maybe not, though, as this is a lot more broad. I'm willing to think about it; it's still hot in the upper hemisphere while spring is on its way Down Under.

Others? How's this idea sound?

No patio, you know like David has no A/C.

Oh, and aren't wines on the patio in Alberta chilled whether you like it or not in September?

Do something I don't like, as I (again) won't be able to participate much or even at all.

Go for Sauvignon Blanc!

That wouldn't be very fair to our Euro-pals.

Actually, that might work! NZ Savvy is a pretty idiosyncratic style. Move on to the world of SB and compare and contrast. Could work well for late summer, and lets the Loire-heads enjoy life. :)
