2001 Carlisle Two Acres (RRV) Mourvedre, Pitite Sirah, Valdepenas, Alicante & Bouschet 14.8% Alc. 16% new oak (not sure from where)
I have only had a few wines from Carlisle and I have found the style to be right at the cusp of being too over the top for me. Time will tell. The Two Acres however walked the line and slipped into I nice place for my tastes. On the nose there is syrah but mixed with violets. Great. The flavors are rich and concentrated. On the heavier side but the acid peaks through and balances it out. Very spicy. The finish is where I really enjoyed the depth. Iron, minerals, white and black pepper. What I enjoy about this wine is that it is that it is really bold but with burst of acid and underlying elegance so that it is great with food. Sasha from Eno Wines gave me an old quote to describe his Zin, “An iron fist in a velvet glove”. That is how I would describe the Two Acres. 91 pts.
Cheers,
