2011 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Kronsberg Silvaner Kabinett Trocken
From bocksbeutel – at least half of the other Wirsching wines that I have had have been in Bordeaux bottles.
Pear and mineral nose. Medium-bodied, though powerful; roundish, bone dry, and well balanced, with moderate underlying acidity. Steely, quite saline, herbal, and somewhat leafy, with melon and white peach flavors. Has a light gingerbread note on the finish, and softens a bit with some time in the glass. This comes off tasting more Alsatian to me than other Franken Silvaners that I have had. Very good.
2008 Dr. F. Weins-Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
Mineral/lightly citrus/floral nose. Medium-bodied, elegant, very nicely balanced, off-dry, with good underlying acidity. Transparently mineral; sherbety, with lemon/lime and mixed berry flavors. Excellent.
*AP #3 – imported by the Boston Wine Company, not Rudi Wiest, so I don’t know if this wine has a different AP# than the one imported by the latter.
2006 Leitz Rüdesheimer Bischofsberg Riesling Spätlese Trocken
Nose is surprisingly rather sweet, with aromas of apples, oranges, and petrol. The palate is a complete contrast – full-bodied, bone dry, crisp, round and lightly creamy; well balanced, with good underlying acidity. Very mineral, with citrus, tropical, and black fruits; smoke, and white bread notes. Spicier on the finish. Very good/excellent. A relative bargain for $20.
