WTN: 2006 Kühling-Gillot Riesling GG Sackträger

2006 Kühling-Gillot Riesling Großes Gewächs Sackträger
Nose of lemon extract, apricots, minerals, lees, and multigrain bread. Full-bodied, powerful, bone dry, and sleek, with considerable extract; well balanced, moderately tense, with good underlying acidity that takes a while to fully reveal itself. Becomes more creamy and elegant with time. Full of lemon drop and pineapple flavors, with somewhat subtler grapefruit, slate, almond, and ginger notes. This took a good hour after opening to settle into a nice balance of fruit, extract, acidity, and terroir; I actually wish that I had decanted it beforehand, which I rarely do with dry Rieslings. Otherwise, a few more years should be highly beneficial here. Great length on the finish. Excellent.

Interestingly, Kühling-Gillot’s current website – which is quite nicely designed – makes no mention of any wines being currently made from the Oppenheimer Sackträger site.

I don't mean to nitpick or raise the eternal debates again, but isn't terroir all about how fruit, extract and acidity are expressed? How is it a fourth distinct element?

I thought fellow Riesling lovers are exempt from nit-picking... :)

I think I know what Andrew meant. Sometimes a certain sort of wine will make me feel it's origin is very specific, even if I don't know enough about it to know what tell-tale signs of that origin are.
