Question about Eric Texier wines

by JuliaB » Tue Jul 24, 2012 9:36 pm

Was recently discussing this producer..I had the impression from somewhere down the line that the color of leaf on the label signified the "class" so to speak, of that varietal/vintage. There are gold, silver and copper leaves, if memory serves me (which it rarely does these days  ) I've googled and searched and cannot find information to confirm or dispel this theory. If anyone would know, YOU would. What is the story behind the leaf color?

TIA,
JuliaB

Leafs?? I know the leaves are falling already due to the hot summer, but I'm not recalling leaves on Texier's wines. Are they on the labels? Got me curious now...

Interesting. I never noticed this! But the labels have been slightly changing from year to year, I figured it was his designer restlessness.

He sometimes checks the board, perhaps he'll answer.

Rahsaan, I didn't think just changing the label design was the key to the leaf color. Notice the two bottles both from 2000? I hope Mr. Texier does weigh in on this little mystery.

Hi

small gold leaf = vines over 50 and selection parcellaire

small green leaf = selection parcellaire (last vintage 2002)

big gray leaf = assemblage de parcelles or vines under 50 (parcels blend. ex : brézème used to be coteau and la rollière blended. Only coteau since 2003 but I stopped using the small green leaf and the vines are under 50, I kept the big gray leaf).

Yes, thank you, Eric! The riddle of the leaves has been solved!

Cheers!
