WTN: Domaine De La Colline Sauvignon Touraine 2010

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:50 am

Deep, rich yellow in the glass.

Rich gooseberry, spicy on the nose.

Medium weight, loads of gooseberry, lemon, clean, juicy, good acidity.

Gooseberry, mouthwatering on the finish.

Fairly simple, but enjoyable and good QPR.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

IMO, good Touraine Sauvignon is usually a superior QPR alternative to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé where such Sauvignon based wines excel, e.g. for quaffing with simple shellfish dishes. Taking a look at the list of one of my favourite wine merchants, the cheapest Sancerre, from Reverdy, is about €13 and the most expensive, from P. Cotat, about €25. So it's a no brainer to chose a Touraine Sauvignon from, say, Chidaine at €6 instead. Admittedly Cotat's are amongst the few Sauvignon based wines capable of greater heights and more serious gastronomic use after some ageing.

I don't know Domaine de la Colline. It sounds nice.
