Our friends Paula and Stuart are moving away, and last night we got together for dinner to see them off.

2007 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Kabinett
Smooth. There's really no better word to describe it, other than it was quickly consumed.

2010 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spatlese
Seems rough and rustic after the Vollenweider. I like the liveliness/energy versus the calm ocean of the Vollenweider, but upstaged on this night.

1997 Ridge Lytton Springs
The Lytton is Stuart's favorite of the wines I have opened for him, so I grabbed a bottle despite the heat and humidity. Luckily some cooling evening breezes kept things a little bit red wine friendly, and the Lytton did the rest. Still showing some youthful fruit, there was a nice merger between youth and some leathery and spicy elements. The alcohol showed through a bit, but I figure a less than optimal serving temp had quite a bit to do with that. Overall I don't think this is fully mature yet.
