I thought these two wines that I tasted recently qualify as good deals:
La Crotta di Vegneron, Vallée d'Aoste, Chambave, 2009
Very floral nose but not as perfumey as say, a Ruche can get. Soft red fruits, especially redcurrant, slight talc-baby powder finish. Not complicated at all and perfect for summer. Bright acidity closes the deal. Somewhat sweet, but in the vein of a simpler Beaujolais. Nice stuff, particularly at $16. B+
[A 100% tank-aged blend of 70% Petit Rouge, 30% Field Blend (Mayolet, Fumin, Cornalin, Pinot Noir) from a local cooperative] Serve chilled.
Domaine de la Cadette, Bourgogne Vezelay, 'La Châtelaine', 2009
Simple, if enticing chardonnay, from a backwater appelation if there ever was one. Calcium lemon nose, a light soft wine of oyster shell, anjou pear, and lemon water. Not particularly concentrated. Good, if a little soft (from the vintage perhaps?), like a woman's hand. B+ $17, but normal retail around $21.
