I tend to like Field Stone's wines, but they do definitely tend toward the lush side. They found a new patch of soil growing Sangiovese a couple of years ago (Ok, they planted some for themselves), and so I fell for a couple bottles. Once again, it was the Zin of Sangiovese. Very ripe and full-flavored, lacking the tartness that I look for in the grape. Yet it (barely) escaped being plummy.
I took the bottle down to LoCoCo's in Santa Rosa's Railroad Square last night and had it with penne in a marinara based sauce with sweet Italian sausage and spinach.
Tonight, I grilled some really great salmon (see the Kitchen) and pretty much finished the bottle. It was actually a bit softer than I'd prefer with the salmon, and last night I was thinking I might have done better with a bottle of '99 Foppiano Petite Sirah I'd been musing about.
Decent wine, I think they made the wine they intended, but not really my favorite.
