Short notes on wines at the International Wine and Food Society Board meeting.

Billecart Salmon Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart 1988 - Deep lemon gold. Not a lot of bubbles left in this. Rich, lots of fruit, cafe au lait, lemon rind, candied citrus peel. Big wine with a long finish. Excellent but maybe getting a little tired. Drink up.

Marc Colin Chassagne Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru 2008 - Rather woody/oaky on the nose. Vanilla, white flowers, orange blossom. Has a New Worldy feel to it. Angular, with an acidic finish. Not showing too well. Maybe needs more time.

Reserve de la Comtesse 2005 - Very dark. Rich, cocoa powder, touch of dried herb and earth. Quite soft and approachable but has the stuffing to age. Perhaps a bit tiring to drink, though. Maybe some time will tame it.

Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis Grand Cru 2004 - Very pale and even a little murky, I thought. Beautiful nose. Ripe red berries. Strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. All those also appearing on the palate. A real charmer with the sweet fruit and soft texture making for an easy drink. There was an undertone of something slightly green, like mint or some other sweet herb but that just added to the complexity. Some light smoke as well. Complex and rounded. Outstanding and my wine of the night.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Nice. And nobody cried foul on this green note!
