WTN: Drew Syrah SYV '03...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:53 pm

Tried last night w/ my pizza:
1. DrewFamily Syrah Rodney's & Larner Vnyds/SantaYnezVlly (13.9%; 150 cs) Buellton 2003: Very dark color w/ no evident bricking; very strong/intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah light spicy/oregano/smokey some smokey/toasty/pencilly/oak very attractive/intense nose; tart slight tannic/hard strong licorice/pungent/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah some toasty/smokey/Fr.oak/pungent flavor; very long intense blackberry/spicy/Syrah/licorice some toasty/smokey/oak slight tannic/hard frinish; probably about as good as it's going to get, still pretty primary; a classic SBC Syrah more like Jaffurs than anything. $26.00

1. This was when JasonDrew was in his hey-day down in SantaBarbara. He has since moved up to Elk, CA; just west of the AndersonVlly. This is probably not a style he cares much for anymore. Mostly his Syrah now comes from MendocinoRidge and is made in a more restrained style. I gues a Syrah "with balance" is you use the current buzz word.
