Domaine Zind-Humbrecht GWT Heimbourg Turckheim (MaD; 14%) 1987: Deep gold/burnished bronze color; beautiful/fragrant slight oxidized/hazelnutty strong spicy/GWT/lychee/hair oil some smokey/pungent/toasted cinammon very complex/old GWT nose; soft rich/lush slight oxidized/hazelnutty spicy/cinammon/old GWT bit hair oil/lychee/GWT slightly bitter very complex flavor; very long soft/lush slight hazelnutty/oxidized spicy/cinammon/pungent/smokey/incense some lychee/GWT slight bitter finish; a lovely example of a complex old GWT but not one to hold much longer. $14.10

Jaffurs Syrah MelvilleVnyd/SBC (14.8%) 2003: Very dark/black color w/ no apparent bricking; slight volatile/EA very strong peppery/black pepper/cold-climate intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah some toasty/oak/milk of magnesia lovely nose; tart rather peppery/cracked black pepper/cold-climate intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah rather strong toasty/oak bit alcoholic flavor; very long/lingering some tannic/hard intense black pepper/blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/Syrah some toasty/oak complex finish; good cold-climate character w/ plenty oof intense fruit remaining; should go another 5-8 yrs I would guess; beautiful Syrah. $24.00

1. The Jaffurs was from the Melville Estate (not the Verna's) out in the SantaRitaHills. The Syrah from there now only goes to AdamTolmach. This was, I believe, Craig's first Melville Syrah. I have....ahem....followed Jaffurs from the very start.
