2003 Schloss Saarstein Serriger Schloss Saarsteiner Riesling Kabinett
In 2005, David Schildknecht included this wine in a program he did put together me on kabinett. He said at the time that despite the torrid weather, the wine remained true to the rapidly disappearing kabinett style. Seven years later I can still get some of that connection, though as I felt then, this is still a bit heavy to be called kabinett. That said it has a brightness that is sadly lacking in most 2003s, and while it is sweet, the acidity is sufficient to wipe that clean on the finish, and invite the next sip. This is drinking quite well now, though there is no reason to suspect it will fall off of a cliff any time soon.
So what we have here is a satisfying Schloss Saarstein Serriger Schloss Saarsteiner suggested by Schildknecht. Say that 5 times fast.
