2010 Mercer Sauvignon Blanc, Columbia Valley, WashingtonWhen I moved here nine years ago, the few SB's I ran into were soft and blowsy with too much residual sugar all the time and too much oak some of the time. Finally, this Mercer is Sauvignon Blanc as it should be: crisp and precise with superb minerality and grassy notes on white melon, green bean and gooseberries. No citrus, no candy and no oak, both clean and refreshing yet with some midpalate weight. It's the type of Sauvignon Blanc they told me couldn't be made here. My how times have changed. $12 locally; this is going to be my new house SB.

I tend to lean in the Bueker direction when it comes to SB. When I do drink them they are exclusively from France and then from the Loire and Bordeaux. Are you telling me this is THAT good?

No, it doesn't compete with a great Sancerre. It's just very good for Washington, and it shows what's possible in this new cooler climate we seem to have.
