WTN: Tawse Sketches of Niagara Chardonnay 2009

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:28 am

Niagara Peninsula
Tawse Winery

Bright yellow in the glass.

Spicy, toast, green apple on the nose.

Medium weight, lemon, green apple, quite lean, tangy acidity, light caramel, toast, smoky, clean.

Mouthwatering, lemon, toast on the fairly long finish.

Had read quite a bit of good things about this wine but my opinion was: meh

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian)

Thanks for the notes as always Bruce.

I have noticed prices on almost all Ontario wines creeping up in the last few years. At $20, I'd expect it to show brilliantly well... At best, it sounds correct.

I really think that Ontario needs to have a class of locally grown table wines, but at an attractive price level: below $8 would be good. Pelee Island's wines are still generally close to that benchmark, if only slightly above it.

In fact, I hope to review a few of their newer ones in the coming weeks.
