Over the last few days we've tasted several standout wines. The Prince Alexander NV Brut Rose', Cave de Saumur was interesting at $13, against the Moutaudon NV Brut Rose' which was $37. They both were good, it just depends on what you are going to serve and to whom. Gerard Bertrand Crement de Limoux was even better a few days after being opened. Go figure.
Also pleasantly surprised with two rose's, The Toad Hollow '11 Rose' of Pinot Noir and the Jean Luc Colombo '11 Cape Blue Rose', and much better than last years edition. The Toad Hollow was interesting even at 11.5% ABV. The Colombo was classic Provencal rose'. Both about $12-$13.
This evening we opened the '10 Ca' Montini Pinot Grigio (Trentino), Terre di Valfredda. Striking for a $15 PG. Very clean and crisp with nice stone fruit (12.5% ABV), imported by AVENIU Brands,Baltimore, MD.
And to go with grilled chicken thighs we opened and decanted a bottle of Laleure-Piot '09 Pernand-Vergelesses 1st Cru, Les Vergelesses. Very 1st Cru facade, but maybe some weight to gain. A little light, but very enjoyable. Will wait at least a year to open another, knowing that I have a winner in the bag.
