WTN: Antica and Nero d'Avola

by Bill Spohn » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:14 pm

2010 Antinori Antica Chardonnay (Napa) - no way I thought this was chard. Ripe exotic fruit nose, very tropical, smooth wine with good terminal acidity.

2003 Saia Nero d'Avola - nice cherry fruit nose, medium body, fair bit of tannin, good acidity, very sangio impression, improved with food.

2003 Morgante Don Antonio Nero d'Avola - totally different presentation, less happening in the nose but some bright fruit and considerably riper, also riper in finish and developed some raspberry with time. Next day, the remnants of the Saia had collapsed

Thanks, Bill. I just recently discovered Nero d'Avola for myself.
