WTN: 2001 Domaine Jean Grivot N-S-G "Les Boudots" 1er Cru

This red Burgundy was imported by Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines. Purchased from Burgundy Wine Company. 13% abv. Nose of cherries, savory, and soy sauce or hoisin. Some earthiness and mineral, but also some refinement. Mellows with aeration by the third evening to become smoother drinking and more food friendly, even more fruit emerging I would say. I would rate this in the 89-91 range.

Sounds like some bottle age elements are emerging. Good stuff.

Yes, although for my palate, 'soy sauce/hoisin' are quite aged notes.

I've read some reports of 2001 red Burgundies shutting down, and as it happens I recently had the 2001 Jadot and Tardy versions of Les Boudots. Both were delicious and perhaps similar to this Grivot in that they showed elements of aging/mellowing but most likely plenty of future development.

Yup. I'd expect those in much older reds and be worried about provenance/possible heat damage if a wine that young was showing those characteristics.

I find soy and hoisin type notes in young wines on a regular basis. As we all know - palates differ.
