WTN: Angel's Gate Gamay Noir 2010

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jun 03, 2012 9:14 am

Niagara Peninsuala

Dark red in the glass.

Leather, creamy, forest floor, crushed berries on the nose.

Medium weight, smoky, black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, good acidity, juicy-fleshy fruit, viscous-creamy, quite round in the mouth, leather, peppery.

Mouthwatering, berry fruit on the fairly long finish.

A very good wine.

Purchased on sale for around $9 (Canadian).

I've had some nice Gamays from the Niagara Peninsula over the years. I even make it from crushed must I purchase there (http://www.watsons.ca). But, for some reason, nobody grows it on our side of the river.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Bruce, thanks for the note.

At nine bucks, assuming I could find it at that price, I'd give it a try.

In most cases, I've been quite underwhelmed by our local Gamays. I tend to find Zweigelt much more flavourful, fuller-textured, and interesting.

This was an "in store" sale. The wine is normally $12.95 and still worth it, IMHO.
