WTN: Celler Pinol Mather Teresina 2003/2004

by Jay Labrador » Sun May 20, 2012 8:34 am

A blend of the 2003 and 2004 vintages with Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Syrah, Tempranillo, Merlot, and Morenillo which is a nearly extinct, this is the top wine of Celler Pinol from Terra Alta.

The wine is extremely dark purple and youthful-looking. The nose is rather complex with roast meat and mint being most prominent. Ripe plums and blackberries are also on display. On the palate, the roast meat, plum and blackberries also make an appearance but there are also distinct notes of leather, coffee, dusty earth and smoke. There is still a bit of strength to the tannins but this is not too distracting. There's a bit of acidity prominent on the finish while the length is medium plus.

A very good wine that can be enjoyed now although a year or two more in the bottle might bring some marginal improvement.

Hi Jay -

Thank you for the interesting notes. I've liked several other wines from Celler Pinol in the past, but have never tried the Mather Teresina.
