SacBee: Dunne on NewClairvaux Wnry

Quite interesting article in today's SacBee:
SacBee:NewClairvaux

by one of my favorite writers, MikeDunne, on the NewClairvaux Abbey and Winery. As usual, DarrellCorti is a guiding light behind the effort. I've had a few of these wines from Darrell and thought them very nice wines for the price; not profound, but quite nice. The winemaker, Amiee Sunseri, is part of the Nechilini family over in PopeVlly/NapaVlly.
Anyway...a recommended read.

Hi Tom -

Thank you for the link to this interesting article. I thought I saw some reference to New Clairvaux somewhere recently, but can't remember what or where it was.

This has to be one of the first American wineries to be experimenting with native Greek varieties, I would imagine.

Yup, Andrew. Darrell was a proponent early on of Greek wines (egads...he even once convinced me to buy a retsina
from him..which was actually pretty good) and urged them to give those varieties a shot.
Peter&Becky Work at Ampelos in the StaRitaHills own a resort in Greece and have expressed an interest in
planting some Greek varieties...but don't know if they actually have or not.
Like in Italy, they have a lot of indigenous varieties in Greece that I think could make some interesting wines
in Calif. 'Course...selling them...that's anuther matter.
