2010 Pascal Janvier Coteaux du Loir Cuvée du Rosier (Coteaux du Loir, Loire Valley, western France) 12% imported by Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant - It was a rather brilliant day weatherwise, and, with the evening off, a perfect time to grill. I popped this wine in the fridge to rest for a bit whilst I prepared the asparagus, potatoes, and beef short ribs sliced superthin to grill. Upon opening, the wine was really rich, even sweet, tangy. I've sampled the wine before so I knew this initial introduction was not the full expression (nor even what I particularly enjoyed about the wine). With some air, time, and as I sat down with the food, however, the wine absolutely sung. Slightly peppery, suggestion of herbal qualities, incredible marriage with both the char and chew of the meat and the sweetness of the asparagus. A food wine if ever there were one. A life without Pineau d'Aunis is a life not worth grilling!
Always interested in wines that come from the Loir tributary. And this wine delivers for sure.
