1. MarcelLapierre Morgon (13%; www.Marcel-Lapierre.com; M10TRN 12/10/11) Villie-Morgon 2010: Med.dark color; rather earthy/dusty spicy/grapey/Gamay/strawberry/bing cherry slight alcoholic nose; soft rather earthy/dusty strong grapey/bing cherry/strawberry/spicy sauvage bit tannic/hard flavor; long earthy/dusty/spicy strong bing cherry/Gamay/strawberry bit tannic finish; needs 2-6 yrs; much like a Loire CabFranc but less tannic and more fruity; good balance of earthy BeaujGC character and fruit. $24.00

Can't say I follow this analogy or this logic.

Sort of like saying mangoes are like blueberries but a different color and with different flavors.

Just purchased this today, and will report back if I have a different experience with this. I liked the 09 last year a lot, and now regret not buying more to lay down. Sad about Mr. Lapierre's passing last October, just after harvest. He was someone who really loved and appreciated Gamay for Gamay's sake. I'm not a huge fan of Duboeuf flower series from 09, even though it's not bad on its own terms. They just seem over-extracted and over-ripe, which Lapierre carefully avoids.

I can see the paralel in an abstract sense to Loire CF, though mainly in the sense that the style's are similar here to say, the Guiberteau, Saummur Rouge, 2009. These are refreshing, streamlined reds with some nice earth and minerals on the front and back-ends, but not in a Pinot way at all. I suppose I like the comparison because Tom's not automatically trying to associate this Gamay with some Burgundy wine. I cringe at the thought.
