Oregon

Bright yellow in the glass.

Spicy, apple, lemon on the nose.

Medium weight, creamy, tangerine, lemon, light pineapple, good acidity, slightly candied, peppery, floral, with a rather sharp and bitter bite that grew stronger with time.

Mouthwatering, tangy citrus rind on the finish.

Rather extreme and, IMHO, more like a Viognier than a PG.

Disappointing.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

I had the Firesteed Riesling last night and it was okay. As it was a freeby, I can't say that I can complain. I will have to get my hands on the PG to see if I have the same reaction you do.

I just finished bottling my 2011 Pinot Gris, from locally grown grapes. This is the 3rd year I've made this. When I get the fresh grapes, it's hard to tell them apart from Pinot Noir, as they have dark skins. I ran the grapes through the crusher/destemmer and pressed out the juice a few hours later. The now bottled wine (I'm sipping the dregs now) has a pale copper hue. As a contrast, the friend who I bought the grapes from, is making a sparkling wine from Pinot Noir. However, he did whole cluster pressing and has a white with pale straw color - virtually no pigmentation from the skins. I'm looking forward to trying it when it's done. It's amazing how decisions at the very start of the wine making process have such effects on the final outcome, months or years later.
