WTN: Mas De Daumas Gassac 1999

by Bruce Hayes » Fri May 04, 2012 9:29 am

Vin de Pays de l’Hérault Haute Vallée du Gassac
V. Guibert de la Vaissière

A blend of 80 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and other unspecified grapes

Decanted just before the meal.

Rich cherry red in the glass.

Cherry, earthy, leather, floral notes on the nose.

Medium weight, mushroom, earth, tarry, tangy acidity, forest floor, black olives, light cherry and raspberry fruit, drying, floral, with a bitter edge.

Forest floor, smoky, earthy, mushroom on the long finish.

Lots of beautiful mature notes. I prefer this to several 1997s I have been having lately. The latter seem to fall apart and become quite tart and drying fairly quickly in the decanter.

Purchased at approx $38 (Canadian).

I enjoyed Mas de Daumas Gassac some years ago. Your note sounds spot on. It is definitely a wine with much aromatic and flavour interest.
