Clear garnet. Expressive nose evolves from oaky cherries to elderberries, cedar and red raspberries. Silky midpalate with red raspberries, firm and fine tannins, and nice acidity. Long finish of grippy tannins and black cherry fruit with a hint of pit at the end. Nicely balanced. Even my wife commented on how nice the wine was (a relatively uncommon occurrence).
With food: Excellent match with marinated, grilled venison steaks. The venison tames the tannins a tad and accentuates the dark fruit, especially on the finish.
Wine: Cerro Anon 2005 Rioja Reserva Bodegas Olarra 14% abv
