WTN: Two Napa Reds (Corison and Ahnfelt)

Following our participation in the grueling testosterone-poisoned chase through the hills on the First Annual Napa Bike Fest  , we sampled one of my favorite "modernist" Napa wines along with our fantastic Ca'Momi pizza, the 2006 Ahnfelt "Quid Pro Quo" (Bruce Ahnfelt is a lawyer  ), a Merlot-dominated Bordeaux blend. Becoming very smooth and elegant...dark fruit, rich flavor, a lovely, lovely earthy character, some funk, some smokyness but good acidity and brightness as well. In a very nice place right now. Delicious.

Also...an aged Livermore Valley "White Bordeaux". Dr. Andrew brought along a 1997 Murietta's Well Sauv Blanc/Semillon/Muscadet blend that showed very well in a funky, delicious aged white way. Very interesting!

With dinner last night, the 2005 Corison Napa Valley showed well yet again. I finally figured out the descriptor for her wines and why I love them..,. her cabernets are very strongly "tea-like" with delicious acidity and a savory character that comes through across the vintages again and again.
