WTN: 1986 Château Meyney

Dale's recent note on this had me itching to open one of my bottles from an auction purchase we'd shared.
These old Cordiers always deliver everything I look for in older Bordeaux, and this is no exception. A wonderful scent upon opening that keeps building and getting better with time; that unmistakeable Cordier funk combining with mature cedar, cigar smoke and dark fruited flavours, and a palate presence that's very polished with good balance, tannins mostly resolved and a long, savoury finish. Excellent wine, drinking beautifully now though there's no rush on other bottles, and I'm glad to have some more.

Salil,
If, like me, you like the "Cordier funk" and various N. Rhone Syrahs, I think it's a fair statement that you're most likely fairly Brett intolerant. There are obvious qualifications to that, but after 25 years of tasting wines with Jean, I've learned that I have a much higher tolerance for certain Brett strains than many others do :D

I remember Dale suggesting there are different strains of brett and sensitivities vary to them - I'm inclined to agree there, as there are some wines where I've found the brett very offputting (Thevenet Morgons, a few older Beaucastels, surprisingly some older Qupe Syrahs and old Tempier) - but I have no problems with some leathery funk in my Verset or old Cordier clarets.
Meanwhile, we should break into one of my older Gruauds when you're next out on the east coast.
