How will the 95 and 99 Chave Hermitage Rouge compare?

by JoePerry » Fri Nov 03, 2006 12:35 pm

With time, how will history judge the 95 and 99 Hermitage from Chave as compared to each other? I have tasted neither, and am not likely to taste one before considering a purchase.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,
I have tasted both and found them extremely primary (more so than usual for Chave) and in need of twenty years in the cellar. Maybe more.

20 years?????????????????????????

I've got four of the 99; I was counting on enjoying them sooner than that, boo hoo.

Thanks, Jim.

Actually, what I was looking for (other than a drinking window) was a qualitative difference between the two. I'll likely buy one or the other in the next few weeks (but not both) and am torn.

Best,
Joe

They are both good and both very "Chave". The 99 is much more expensive now because it got a lot more points, I believe.

You can bring either to my house, anytime.

Tough call.
Both are so primary that any real long term assessment seems more a dice roll than anything else. Both are well stuffed, well structured and long. I guess the only real difference I can point to is the 95 will be ready a few years earlier - about your 60th, I'd say.
