Tried this last night after dinner:
1. Floriana GrunerVeltliner Tolna/Hungary (11.5%) Binderer St.Ursula/Bingen 2010: Light yellow color; fairly fragrant/spicy/peppery/GV light flowery/mango attractive nose; quite tart/lean/metallic somewhat austere spicy/peppery/GV very light flowery/mango/lemony flavor; med. tart/tangy/grapefruity/metallic light floral/mango/lemon some light spicy/peppery/GV finish; speaks clearly of GV, varietally correct, lean on the palate, and a pleasant quaff at a good price. $7.00 (TJ)

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. When I head over to the wine section at our local TraderJoe's; I uncharacteristicaly turn into a bottom feeder; poking around for labels I don't recognize, at cheap prices. Most are pretty vapid/dull, some are a real steals (like the Ipsus Passito or the ComiqueRevolution), and some are merely OK, but won't bother to revisit them. This GruVee was one that was somewhat better than just OK. I had never seen a GV from Hungary, so that's what attracted me to this wine. Obviously bought in bulk in Hungary and bttled in Germany. It spoke clearly and distinctly of GV. Unlike many of the TJ's cheepies, it was dry & austere...not slightly/greatly sweet. Not a profound GV, but a pretty decent drink, especially with food, at a more than fair price. I've done far worse at TJ's.
What amused me is that their wine guy was there pouring samples, in tiny plastic thimbles, of two pretty dull/vapid wines. He saw this GV in my basket and asked me if I liked it. Told him I just wanted to try it as GV from Hungary is not common. He suggested it was way too acidic, I wouldn't like it, and urged me to upgrade to the vapid Michel Alsatian GWT he was pouring. I mocked great delight for his rec, thanked him profusely, grabbed two btls, and then went around to the back of the section and dumped them on the 2$Chuck shelf.
